Dumb rabbit

So last year I got a small Californian rabbit in hopes to show it at the 4-H fair along with my dairy beef. But one day during feeding it jumped out of the cage. My dad chased it up behind the barn and through the yard and down the lane with a cloths basket trying to catch the ornery thing. But with no luck, we never caught it.

Sunday I came home from work and low and behold the stupid animal was casually laying in my yard, now the size of a small dog because of the wild vegetation it had been munching on for the past year. I ran around my house and charged up the hill determined to catch it. Of course it out ran me. Tame rabbits go wild in three days. Its like a slap in the face. Seeing it sit there chubby cheeks full of grass. Its coat whiter then snow and its black nose wiggling. It still sits in my yard, mocking me. Laughing at its escape and the fact that I will never catch it.
Its a reminder of the one that got away.
